Plumber in the
Theater District.

Almost nothing in the Theater District can shut down to be fixed. Theatres have a curtain, restaurants have a service, and hotels are occupied every night of the year. The plumbing problems here are ordinary; the constraint is that the window to solve them is measured in hours and sits between one audience and the next.

01 / CONTEXT

The buildings

Buildings measured in occupancy, not apartments.

The theatres themselves are among the oldest continuously used buildings in Midtown, many of them century-old houses with public restrooms sized for a crowd that arrives all at once and leaves the same way. Intermission is the real load test, and the failures that matter are the ones that surface during it.

Around them sit hotels running laundry and guest-room hot water at volumes no residential building approaches, and restaurants packed at a density that puts serious grease into shared drainage. When a main line backs up here it usually takes more than one tenant with it.

What ties it together is scheduling. Work gets done overnight, between services, or on a dark day. A contractor who can only come at eleven on a Tuesday morning is no use to anyone on these blocks.

Scheduling

We work to your calendar, not ours.

Tell us the constraint when you call — curtain at eight, brunch service from ten, a dark day on Monday — and the visit is planned around it. For anything that needs the water off, we agree the isolation window with you before the van is loaded.
